What is waking night care?
Waking night care is a type of overnight care. A carer comes to your home and stays awake through the night, ready to help out if you need them.
That’s what makes it different from sleeping night care. With that option, a carer sleeps in a spare room and wakes up to help when needed. Waking night care means you’ll always have someone awake, alert and ready to support you.
Waking night care often suits those who have additional care needs during the early hours. It can also help if you’re more anxious at night and could do with some extra support and company.
It all depends on your unique needs and circumstances. That’s why Novus Care offers a range of flexible care options, all tailored to you. Our night care services range from overnight visits to 24-hour live-in care, so it’s easy to choose support that fits your life.

Waking nights visiting care
Waking nights visiting care is where a trained carer stays overnight while you sleep. They’ll arrive at around 10pm and stay awake throughout the night, so you can rest easy knowing that help is on hand. Usually, they’ll stay until around 7am.
This option might suit you if you already have support from a family carer during the day but need extra help at night. It can also be helpful if you’re independent but have worsening symptoms at night or just want extra peace of mind for the early hours.
Waking nights live-in care
With our live-in care service, you get 24-hour support from a hand-picked carer who lives with you at home. The difference with waking nights live-in care is that we’ll also send a waking night care assistant to stay awake throughout the night.
For you, that means more confidence at all hours. You’ll always have a trusted person around, whether it’s the middle of the day or the early hours of the morning. That’s why waking nights live-in care often suits those who live alone or need around-the-clock support to manage a complex health condition.

Who is waking night care for?
Waking night care is for anyone who needs extra support or peace of mind at night. That might be because:
• You have additional needs at night: our carers are trained to support people living with complex medical conditions, including those with night-time symptoms or flare-ups.
• You need mobility support: if you find it hard to get out of bed or go to the bathroom, a waking night carer can step in straight away to help.
• You live alone: if you feel more anxious at night, having someone around and awake can be very reassuring.
Another option is sleeping night care, where a carer stays with you but sleeps until you call them for assistance. Learn more about our different overnight home care services.
What can a waking night care assistant do?
A waking night care assistant can do everything a daytime carer can do. They undergo regular training so they know how to support different medical conditions. And they’re allowed to help with most tasks around the home. That includes:
• Helping with mobility: getting in and out of bed, going to the bathroom or moving positions in bed
• Personal care: discreet support for toileting, washing and dressing, including getting ready for bed
• Medication support: helping you keep track of medications and take the right dose at the right time
• Specialised support, including support for those living with dementia who may feel more disoriented at night
The benefits of waking night care
| Condition-led care | Companionship | Reassurance for you | Peace of mind for your family |
|---|---|---|---|
| Our carers are trained to provide specialist support for many health conditions. They're always ready to help, whether you have complex needs or could just do with a little extra support. | Many of our clients enjoy having someone around to chat to or share a cuppa at night - especially if they struggle to sleep. | An extra pair of hands can make all the difference during the early hours. Whether it's a toilet trip or a night-time emergency, support is only a moment away. | It's hard for family members to be there 24/7. Knowing that a trusted person is caring for you when they can't means they can rest easy. |

With your care plan in place, we’ll carefully match you with a highly trained carer who fits your personality. That way, you don’t just get the right care – you also get a friendly companion who you’ll be happy to have around.
CQC-regulated care across all of England
Novus Care is an experienced, family-run care agency, founded in 2011. We provide care across every town and village in England, and all our services are registered and regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
That’s important because it means you can have confidence in the quality of our care. We undergo routine CQC inspections to make sure we meet strict regulatory standards and provide the right level of care to our clients.
We also employ all our carers directly and provide high-quality training to keep standards high. That’s different from some home care agencies, which only act as introductory agencies and aren’t regulated by the CQC.
