What is Frailty?
Frailty is often misunderstood and stigmatised, but it is a specific clinical syndrome. It describes a condition where there is a gradual decline and reduction in the body’s internal reserves, making a person more vulnerable and less able to recover from physical or mental illnesses, medication changes, or environmental shifts.
People with frailty are at an increased risk of falls and are more susceptible to developing conditions like anxiety and depression and likely to experience unplanned hospital admissions.
At Novus Care we understand the unique challenges faced by individuals living with frailty or mobility issues which is why many families are now choosing to hire a home carer to support their loved ones at home. This enables individuals to live independently and safely in their own homes.
Mobility and Frail care in the home
Someone might need mobility and frail care for any number of reasons – such as recovering from a fall or accident, a muscle, joint or neurological condition or simply older age. Perhaps you need support coming home from hospital or would like additional care at home to help you feel safe and comfortable.
While it seems like the last thing you might want to do, quite often the best thing for mobility and frail care is to keep moving! It’s understandable to be conscious of falling or injuring yourself but keeping active is one of the best things you can for your mobility!
Understandably, if you suffer from pain or weakness in muscles and joints, it can be tempting to stick to what you know and remain comfortable but even a little bit of movement around the home and garden can make all the difference.
How we care for someone with Mobility or Frailty issues
Our mobility and frailty carers will support you to remain as active as possible – encouraging movement and independence so you can live your life to the fullest. We will always ensure you are comfortable, capable and safe to avoid injury. For example they can help with:
- Personal Care Assistance: Helping you with personal care such as washing, dressing and going to the toilet.
- Mobility Support: Assistance with moving around the house, transferring from bed to chair, and using mobility aids.
- Medication Management: Ensuring medications are taken correctly and on time.
- Meal Preparation: Nutritious meal planning and cooking to support a healthy diet.
- Housekeeping: Maintaining a clean and safe living environment.
- Companionship: Providing social interaction and emotional support to reduce feelings of isolation.
- Transportation: Safe transport to medical appointments, social events, and errands.
- Exercise and Rehabilitation: Help with some simple daily exercises such as a gentle walk, stretches or seated exercise or take you to local exercises classes or physiotherapy.
