Caring for someone with a mental health condition
Around 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem in their lifetime, most commonly this will be mixed anxiety and depression which affects 8 in 100 people according to MIND. Mental health can affect people in different ways and severe anxiety and depression can make it difficult for someone to live a normal life and look after themselves. They may lack motivation and find it difficult to get out of bed or care for themselves, they may have agoraphobia or other phobias that rule their lives.
Those living with mental health conditions such as bipolar disorder, antisocial personality disorder, borderline personality disorder or psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia can face difficulties controlling their emotions, deciphering right from wrong or reality. At Novus Care, we understand that many people living with a mental health condition such as this can feel stigmatised and misunderstood, however our carers are fully trained and understanding of these conditions and how to care and support someone correctly.
Mental health care in the home
We understand that being diagnosed with a mental illness can be a lot to process, but it can often help make sense of thoughts and feelings you have and how you deal with your emotions. It does not mean you can’t live a fulfilling happy and independent life – it just means you may need people to look out for and advocate for you and keep an eye for any distressing or worrying symptoms, so you don’t cause harm to yourself.
Mental health care in the home can help with instilling a routine and self-management of your condition, having someone look out for you and ensure you are looking after yourself, taking medication and not experiencing any worrying symptoms.
Your wellbeing and dignity is important to us, and we will always take your needs and concerns seriously so you feel fully supported.
