Live-in convalescent care at home

Live-in convalescent care is just what it sounds like. A trained carer comes to live with you at home temporarily, so you’ll have support at all hours during your recovery. People often choose this option when their mobility is limited, they’re recovering from a serious illness or they live alone.

Alternatively, you might just want the peace of mind that there’s always someone around to help you get back on track.

Visiting convalescent home care

Visiting convalescent care suits those who don’t need 24/7 support, but could use a helping hand to make day-to-day life a little easier. For instance, we could send a carer every few days to run errands or keep the house tidy. Or they could visit daily to cook dinner or help you get ready in the morning. We’ll arrange a visiting schedule with you at the start, then adjust it as you regain your strength.

Overnight convalescent care

Days and nights can feel very different when you’re in recovery. You might have support during the day but not at night. Or perhaps you just feel stronger and more confident in the daylight hours. That’s where overnight care can help. With this option, a carer stays at your home from late evening to early morning.

Like all our care options, it’s flexible. You can choose waking night care (the carer stays awake all night) or sleeping night care (they wake when needed).

Companionship care

Recovery isn’t just about regaining physical strength – it’s about looking after your mental well-being, too. If you don’t have family or friends around to support you, why not consider our companionship care service? We’ll send a companionship carer as often as needed to help boost your confidence and stave off loneliness. That might mean sticking by your side day and night, or simply popping by occasionally for a cuppa and a chat.

What does home convalescent care look like?

Recovery is different for everyone. That’s why we tailor our care to every client – even if we’re only stepping in to help for a few weeks.

By tailoring our care to you, we make sure you’re supported in every aspect of your recovery. For instance, our carers can help with:

• Food and drink: we can prepare nutritious meals that help you regain strength, whether that’s your favourite foods or something new. It’s up to you.
• Housework: we know that keeping on top of chores might be difficult or impossible. Your carer will be happy to help keep the house clean and tidy.
• Mobility: all our carers receive mobility training, so they can help you get out of bed or get around the house safely.
• Medication: your recovery might include a new and unfamiliar medication routine. We can administer medication and help make sure you take the right dose on time, every time.
• Personal care: your carer can offer discreet support for personal matters like washing, dressing and toileting. That includes assistance with stomas or catheters.
• Getting out and about: we can accompany you to appointments and social events, or pick up prescriptions or groceries on your behalf.

Who can benefit from convalescent care at home?

Convalescent home care is for people who are expected to regain their full independence after a period of recovery.

That might be because:

• You’ve sustained an injury.
• You’ve had surgery.
• You’ve recently been discharged from hospital.
• You’re on the road to recovery after a serious illness.

If you don’t think you’ll be fully independent after your recovery, convalescent care might not be the right option for you. Depending on your needs and circumstances, it may be worth exploring long-term care options.

However, unlike with home care, this care isn’t one-to-one. Instead, carers divide their time between different residents.

Do you offer convalescent care after knee and hip replacements?
Yes. Our carers are trained to support people recovering from a wide range of health conditions and surgeries, including knee and hip replacements. Just because it’s short-term, it doesn’t mean the standard of care will be any different.

How long does convalescent care last?
It depends on how long you need to make a full recovery. You might only need our support for a few weeks, or you may need several months to feel yourself again. We’ll review and adjust our care throughout your recovery journey, so you always receive the right level of support.
