Caring for someone with learning disabilities
There are around 1.5m people in the UK with a learning disability, with around 23% of these people living with a severe learning disability. A learning disability’s impact on someone’s life can vary greatly in severity from person to person – their learning disability could be mild and make it difficult to learn new skills or severe where they may need a lot of support and help with eating, personal care and looking after their home.
We can provide learning disability care that is bespoke to the needs and demands of the individual and the severity of their learning disability. From providing that little extra help and supervision to encourage someone to be independent to providing specialist care for someone who needs a lot of support – we can provide a range of care services for learning disabilities.
Whether you need respite or additional support in your role as family carer or are exploring independent living options but want to ensure they have support – we can cater to your care needs.
Care services for mild learning disabilities
We understand how demanding it can be to care for someone with learning disabilities, so we are here to provide respite, support and peace of mind if you need it.
You may have a young adult ready to fly the nest and live independently, but have concerns about their ability to care for themselves, develop a routine and stay safe. Living independently is an important part of their development where they can learn new skills and learn to look after themselves, but it is understandable to have hesitation.
A carer can help with this new stage of life by providing support, assisting as they learn to live independently and carry out tasks such as housework, errands and personal care as well as getting to daily appointments and activities. We’ll aim to encourage as much independence as possible, stepping in when needed and supporting them with their achievements.
Our carers can provide care on a visiting basis from a few hours a week to multiple daily visits or you might want to consider a live in carer who can be there as a constant source of support.
