Tailored multiple sclerosis care at home
At Novus Care, we understand the impact of a multiple sclerosis diagnosis. It’s life-changing. But with the right support, you can still live life your way.
Our multiple sclerosis in-home care services are designed to help you stay independent at home and in your community. With our specialist support, many clients living with multiple sclerosis are able to live fulfilling lives and do more of the things they want to do.
Best of all, you receive care in your own home and on your own terms. Our care services are very flexible, ranging from 30-minute weekly visits to 24/7 MS care at home. That means you can tailor our support to fit your life and your needs. For some, it’s the difference between staying in the home they love and moving into a residential care home.
We also understand that multiple sclerosis affects everyone differently and that symptoms change with time. That’s why our care plans for multiple sclerosis are built around each client’s individual requirements and designed to evolve as their needs change. It’s all about providing just the right amount of care, just when you need it.
What is multiple sclerosis home care?
Home care for MS patients focuses on daily support to help them manage symptoms, maintain independence and stay safe and comfortable. That might mean assisting with personal care, administering medication, doing housework and providing emotional support, among other things.
Multiple sclerosis is a progressive (worsening) condition that affects everyone differently, so it’s important for care to be tailored to each person’s changing needs. Typically, home care is one aspect of a bespoke, holistic care package, which might also include home adaptations, physical therapy, medication and nursing care.

Live-in home care for MS patients
Do you rely on constant support from relatives at home? Live-in multiple sclerosis care could help you stay as independent as possible and make life simpler for your family. With this option, you get 24/7 support from a carer who comes to live with you at home. We’ll match you with a carer who’s trained in multiple sclerosis care and who shares your interests and outlook on life. Many of our live-in care clients form lasting bonds with their carers.
Visiting multiple sclerosis home care assistance
Our MS home care services are very flexible. If you only need occasional support, we can send a carer to visit you at home at a time to suit you. That could be every day, once every few days or as little as 30 minutes each week. Your visiting carer can support you in all sorts of ways, from catching up on housework to helping you get to appointments and social occasions.
Multiple sclerosis respite care
Being a family carer can be very rewarding, but it’s never easy. Our multiple sclerosis respite care service gives family carers the chance to take a well-earned break, so they can return feeling refreshed. We’ll send an MS care specialist, who’ll follow your tailored care plan so you continue receiving high-quality support while your usual carer is away. Respite care can also be a good option if you want to trial multiple sclerosis in-home care or if you need extra support temporarily.
Companionship care
According to the MS Society, 3 in 5 people with multiple sclerosis feel lonely because of their condition. That’s where companionship care can be a real help. This service focuses on keeping you company, helping you get out and stay active, and soothing loneliness and anxiety. However, your carer can still help out at home as needed. Sometimes, having a trusted person around can make all the difference.
Palliative care
Our MS palliative care service is designed for people who are in the advanced stages of multiple sclerosis. Palliative care is about making sure the person is comfortable, supported and able to experience the best possible quality of life as their condition progresses. It can also include end-of-life care – providing compassionate at-home support so they can live out their last days in comfort.
Not sure which type of care is right for you? We can help. Contact our care team and we’ll put together a tailored care plan for multiple sclerosis that fits your unique lifestyle, preferences and health needs.
Person-centred MS home care, built around your life
Your independence is precious. At Novus Care, we aim to give you just the right amount of support so you can live life to the fullest.
That’s why we tailor our care plans for each of our clients – and it’s why we focus on providing flexible, compassionate care at home. For you, it means receiving the one-to-one support you need in the environment you know and love most. And it means always being in control of your life, your schedule and the care you receive.
Our day-to-day support looks different for everyone. However, it can include:
• Personal care: your carer can help you with dressing, grooming and other personal care needs. They can also help with toileting (including taking care of stomas and catheters) in a professional and compassionate way.
• Support with eating: we can help with food preparation and make sure there’s good, healthy food ready to eat. We can also support you with swallowing if this is an area of difficulty.
• Getting out and about: nobody wants to be stuck at home all the time. Our carers can help you get fresh air and maintain an active social life, so you stay happy and motivated.
• Medication support: your carer can assist with taking medication, including making sure you take the right dose at the right time. They can also help you get to doctor, hospital and dentist appointments.
• Mobility support: we can help you get around safely at home and in your community. Our carers are trained in the use of mobility equipment, such as hoists.
• Companionship: your carer is there to provide emotional support, as well as practical help. We’ll match you with a carer who shares your hobbies and interests, so you’ll have plenty to bond over.
• Day-to-day support: as part of your MS home care plan, your carer can help with all sorts of daily tasks. That includes doing household chores, running errands and even looking after pets.

Your multiple sclerosis home care questions answered
What is multiple sclerosis?
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease that impacts the brain and spinal cord. People affected by MS experience damage to the coating (myelin) that protects the nerves. According to the MS Society, more than 150,000 people are living with MS in the UK. It’s more prevalent in women than in men.
MS is a progressive disease, meaning symptoms get worse over time. There is no cure for it, but there are treatments that can help slow its progression.
What are the symptoms of multiple sclerosis?
MS affects everyone differently. However, the most common symptoms include:
• Muscle spasms and stiffness
• Fatigue
• Numbness and tingling
• Bladder problems
• Difficulties with thinking, learning and planning
How do you care for someone with multiple sclerosis?
Every person is different – and every person with multiple sclerosis has different needs and day-to-day challenges. What’s most important is that caregivers work hard to understand the condition and its symptoms, and provide compassionate support where needed. It’s also important for care to be adaptable. Multiple sclerosis symptoms can change over time, and the support provided must be able to change along with them.
Day-to-day support can include housekeeping help, assistance with medication and personal care, as well as emotional support. Mobility adaptations, such as grab bars, can also help by empowering the person to move around safely at home.
How much is home care for MS patients?
It varies from person to person. Broadly speaking, however, the cost of full-time live-in care often works out more affordable than the total cost of multiple visiting care sessions. And unlike in a residential care home, multiple sclerosis in-home care is delivered on a one-to-one basis.
