What our clients say...
Real stories from real people. Our clients and their families share how home care from Novus Care has made a difference to their lives.
Read Pat's Story...
At Novus Care, we know that outstanding care is about so much more than supporting daily needs. It's about building meaningful relationships, encouraging independence, and creating special moments that bring joy, confidence, and connection.
Sometimes, it's the little things that make the biggest difference.
One of our lovely community carers, Sally, has developed a wonderful friendship with her client Pat. Together, they enjoy spending time out in the community, making every outing an opportunity for laughter, conversation, and enjoyment.
Whether it's sharing lunch together, browsing the shops in town, or visiting B&M for a few favourite treats, Sally always ensures that Pat feels included, valued, and supported. On warmer days, they enjoy gentle walks, taking in the fresh air and sunshine along the seafront.
One of Pat's absolute favourite parts of their outings is stopping for an ice cream by the sea, a simple pleasure that never fails to bring a smile to her face.
These moments may seem small, but they have had a huge impact on Pat's wellbeing, confidence, and happiness. They are a reminder that great care is built on genuine connections, shared experiences, and taking the time to make every day meaningful.
If you're looking for a little extra support, our carers can help you stay connected to the things you love too, whether that's a trip to the shops, meeting friends for lunch, enjoying a walk in the park, or even spending a relaxing day by the seaside.
Because at Novus Care, it's the moments that matter most.
Read Lawrence's Story...
At Novus Care, we understand that for many people, there is no place they would rather be than their own home.
When Lawrence began receiving support from our team, he was living independently while managing multiple complex health conditions. Like many of the people we support, maintaining his independence was incredibly important to him.
As our care team got to know Lawrence, it became clear that his needs were greater than initially assessed. Through close collaboration with healthcare professionals, Social Services, and Occupational Therapists, we advocated for the additional support, specialist equipment, and care package reviews needed to help him remain safe at home.
When residential care was discussed as a potential option, Lawrence made his wishes clear. He wanted to stay in the place he knew and loved. We listened.
By putting Lawrence at the centre of every decision, we worked alongside partner agencies to ensure he received the right level of support while maintaining as much independence as possible.
But great care goes beyond meeting physical needs. Our team took the time to understand what mattered most to Lawrence as an individual. We discovered his passion for fishing and continue to advocate for opportunities that will help him reconnect with the activities he enjoys and maintain a positive quality of life.
Lawrence's story is a reflection of what person-centred care should be: listening, advocating, respecting choice, and empowering people to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible.
At Novus Care, we're proud to support people not only with their care needs, but with their goals, preferences, and the life they want to lead.
If you would like to learn more about our home care services and how we support people to remain independent at home, please contact our team today to find out more.
Read Lauren's Story...
Lauren, 22, has recently returned home after a stay in hospital, and it has been an absolute joy to see how incredibly well she is doing. After experiencing a fall which resulted in a fractured shoulder, Lauren required surgery and a period of recovery in hospital. While this was a challenging time, her strength and determination have truly shone through.
Lauren has Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome, a condition that means she thrives on routine, familiarity, and calm, predictable environments. Because of this, being back at home has made such a powerful difference to her wellbeing. Surrounded by the people, routines, and comforts she knows and loves, Lauren is noticeably more relaxed, settled, and content.
We have had the absolute privilege of supporting Lauren for over six months now, and in that time she has built some truly special and meaningful relationships with her care team. These bonds are so important to Lauren, helping her feel safe, understood, and reassured, especially after her time in hospital. The trust and connection she shares with her carers is something really special to see.
Since returning home, Lauren has made fantastic progress in her recovery. Her injury has not held her back. Lauren continues to push herself in the most inspiring way, staying motivated with her mobility and enjoying getting out and about whenever possible. She is already getting back to enjoying the things she loves most, including listening to music, watching her favourite cartoons, and spending time in calm, sensory-friendly environments.
We are so incredibly proud to see how far Lauren has come. Her journey is a powerful reminder of the impact that compassionate care, familiar surroundings, and meaningful relationships can have. Keep shining, Lauren.
Read Michael's Story...
At 77 years old, Michael's life has been shaped by the challenges of Alzheimer's, a condition that affects his memory and ability to carry out everyday tasks. With the exception of regular visits from family, Michael spends much of his time at home, often struggling to find activities that keep him engaged.
Last year, Michael's step-daughter gave him a one-off paint-by-number canvas to help keep him occupied. This simple gift sparked a new beginning — a new hobby that would quickly grow into something far more meaningful.
The paint-by-number sets started as a way for Michael to pass the time, offering him an enjoyable, calming activity. As he filled in each space with the designated colours, Michael found a sense of purpose and pride in completing each canvas.
Rather than sticking strictly to the prescribed colours, Michael began testing his own ideas — adding personal touches, using his own colours and creating unique patterns. This allowed him to tap into a creative part of himself that Alzheimer's hadn't taken away.
Read John's Care Story...
John is 91 years old and was born in St Austell in Cornwall and has been receiving live in care from us since May 2021. He still lives in Cornwall and went to Truro cathedral school until he was 15. After leaving school he served in national service for 3 years and had an illustrious career in insurance in Bristol.
John is living with Cellulitis, Acute Gastrointestinal bleeding, Atrial Fibrillation and Idiopathic Hypertrophic Osteoarthropathy and needs around the clock care and support. However, John didn't want to leave his home and family, so a live-in carer was the perfect solution.
After looking at various care agencies, his daughter Jo found Novus Care and was immediately impressed. Although John's family were naturally cautious about having a 'stranger' living in their home, they were pleasantly surprised at how quickly John and his carer Sonia bonded.
John says: "Live in care is the best decision I have made and I would highly recommend it. I can stay in my own home, I have help when I need it, and I have a wonderful companion in Sonia."
Read Ernest's Story...
Ernest is 87 years old, a very cheerful, bubbly man and lives alone in a one-bedroom flat in Chelmsford he moved into a couple of years ago after his beloved wife Hilary sadly passed away.
Ernest was born and raised in Canvey Island and was passionate about flying. In 1952 at the age of 17 he signed up for eight years in the Royal Air Force. Two years later, Ernest was involved in a plane crash — he went unnoticed for two days and managed to stay alive using his RAF training skills.
The accident left him with multiple injuries including a broken collar bone, leg and arm and his Royal Airforce career was abruptly cut short. Ernest was devastated and decided to make a new life for himself, eventually building a wonderful family.
Ernest now receives visiting care from Novus Care and says: "Such wonderful Carers. I really would not be able to cope without them. They are so kind and nothing is ever too much trouble."
Read Glenys' Story...
Glenys is 84 and lives on her own in Guildford, Surrey. Unfortunately last year she had a fall and fractured her hip. Her daughter Amanda was concerned how her mum would cope at home on her own and began looking at care options.
Amanda was naturally worried about having someone living full-time in her mum's home. Glenys very much values her independence and wanted a carer who would understand her care needs, respect her privacy and give her the support she needed.
Amanda had been using our domiciliary care team to provide visits during the day and Glenys was impressed with the quality of care provided. She was delighted to discover we could also arrange live-in care.
Our care manager met with Glenys and Amanda to discuss the level of care required — what food Glenys liked, her interests and the type of carer she was looking for. They were matched with the perfect carer and Glenys has not looked back since.
Read Janet's Story...
One of our clients Janet is in her 50s and living with a brain tumour. Although Janet requires around the clock care and support, she still loves to go on holiday. So Janet and her live in carer Unity headed to the Isle of Wight for a short break.
One of the highlights of their trip was visiting a rescue donkey sanctuary. Spending time with the donkeys provided a sense of peace and served as a poignant reminder of the beauty of second chances — for the animals and for Janet herself.
Next on their itinerary was a visit to a butterfly sanctuary. The sanctuary was magical, offering them a moment to pause, reflect, and soak in the wonder of nature. No trip to the Isle of Wight would be complete without a visit to the beach, and the sea air and sound of the waves brought Janet enormous joy.
This trip is a wonderful example of how live-in care enables people to continue enjoying life to the full. With Unity by her side, Janet was able to experience everything the island had to offer safely and confidently.
Read Olive's Story...
Olive has been a long-term client of Novus Care for many years. Olive lost her husband over 4 years ago and tragically lost her son last year due to cancer. Her daughter doesn't live locally but comes to visit as often as she can.
Olive has someone to sit with her during the day on Fridays. One Friday, her carer Vicky decided — with the family's permission — to take Olive to Southend on Sea for the day. In Southend, they went for a fish and chip lunch on the seafront.
Olive absolutely loved it. She was thrilled to see the sea and the fresh air did her the world of good. After lunch, they had a little walk along the prom and stopped off for an ice cream.
After her visit, Olive explained how much the day out meant to her. She said it brought back fond memories of when she was younger and memories of her children when they were small. At Novus Care, we believe great care goes beyond the home.
Read Barbara's Story...
Barbara, one of our cherished clients, lives in a retirement flat with the support of her live-in carer, Erna. Despite needing assistance with daily tasks, Barbara remains fiercely independent and makes the most of every day.
In March 2021, Barbara experienced a fall that led to a hip replacement. Since then, Erna has been there every step of the way, supervising all transfers to ensure Barbara's mobility is monitored and she stays safe.
Barbara takes great pride in her appearance, always making sure to do her hair and makeup, select a nice outfit, and meet her friends for their weekly coffee mornings held in the building she resides in.
Recently, Barbara reached an incredible milestone — her 100th birthday! To celebrate, Erna planned a surprise get-together, inviting some of Barbara's friends to her flat. They celebrated with Champagne, flowers, and cake. It was a truly wonderful occasion.
Read Doreen's Story...
At Novus Care, care isn't just about supporting someone with day to day practicalities; it can be something as simple as popping in to have a chat over a cup of tea or taking someone out for a walk to help their wellbeing.
Doreen is 85 years young and has been receiving care at home for over 3 years from Novus Care. We have been supporting Doreen and her husband Peter to ensure she continues to enjoy an independent, dignified life at home.
One afternoon, along with her husband Peter, her carers took her for an afternoon tea to their local Morrisons café. However just as they entered the café, the fire alarm went off — luckily this was a false alarm and didn't stop them from enjoying their afternoon tea!
This is an example of how our home care services let you continue to live the life you want. You won't be restricted to set mealtimes or visiting hours — you'll have complete control over your life and the care you receive.
Read Louise's Story...
At Novus Care, we always strive to go the extra mile for our clients, ensuring they can lead fulfilling, enriched lives independently at home. One recent success story is that of Louise, one of our wonderful clients with Cerebral Palsy.
Louise finds swimming to be a crucial part of her routine. The water helps relax her muscles and provides therapeutic benefits that are hard to achieve elsewhere. Unfortunately, she had been unable to swim for some time due to challenges in finding the right support.
Understanding how important swimming is for Louise, we reached out to all of our carers to see if anyone could help her get back into the pool. Thankfully, Tina, one of our dedicated carers, was more than happy to assist Louise with swimming.
Louise is thrilled to be swimming again, and it's now become a regular part of her routine. The bond between her and Tina has grown, and knowing that she can enjoy this activity with the support of a trusted carer gives Louise — and her family — enormous peace of mind.
Read Eily's Story...
On the 22nd April, Novus Care was proud to celebrate with our longest client Eily on her 100th birthday. Eily has been a client of Novus Care since 2014 and she really is part of the Novus Care family.
A northern girl at heart, during the war Eily was a Wireless Operator in the RAF and she was so proud to receive a certificate of congratulations from the RAF on her 100th birthday.
Her regular carers Becky and Jill presented Eily with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. It was also a special moment for Rebecca Burrows, our Compliance Manager, as they both came to Novus Care within a few months of each other back in 2014.
Rebecca said: "It was wonderful to listen to Eily's achievements from her family and friends and help her celebrate such a momentous birthday. She is an inspiration to us all."
Read Janet's Story...
Meet Janet, who is in her 50s and living with a brain tumour. Janet requires around the clock care and support, which is expertly provided by Tolulope, one of our highly experienced live in carers.
Not only did Tolulope ensure Janet had everything she needed for their holiday, she also ensured the kitchen was prepared for renovation before accompanying Janet on a day-long journey via taxi, ferry and taxi to the Isle of Wight.
Throughout their time on the island, Tolulope engaged Janet in various activities including bowling and swimming, and they savoured delicious meals together.
Upon their return, Tolulope assisted Janet in settling back into their home, organising everything in the newly renovated kitchen. This is a brilliant example of the holistic, compassionate care our live-in carers provide every day.
Read Stewart's Story...
At Novus Care, we provide care at home so our clients can continue to live an independent life. After all, we believe life is better at home. Stewart is one of our lovely clients who is cared for by our Canvey Island team.
Kerry is one of Stewart's regular carers and he really looks forward to her visits. As it was Halloween, Kerry decided to arrange a day out to Southend on Sea with Stewart to visit the Halloween Hall of Mirrors.
Kerry has positively impacted Stewart's well-being by providing much-needed companionship and support. Receiving care at home has also allowed Stewart to live independently and be surrounded by his own belongings and familiar surroundings.
Care in the home lets you continue to live the life you want. Stewart is a wonderful example of how the right carer can make every day something to look forward to.
Read David's Story...
David has been a Novus Care client since April 2023 and is living with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, resulting in some learning difficulties. However, with the dedicated around the clock care and support from his live-in carer Faith, David continues to thrive.
Faith has become an integral part of David's social life. They share a common love for the local football team, attending matches together regularly. Their bond extends beyond leisure — they cook meals together and enjoy friendly games of Scrabble.
Faith's commitment goes further as she helps facilitate David's online communication with friends and family. Recognising her exceptional dedication, Faith was nominated as Carer of the Month by both David and his family.
David's story is a wonderful example of how the right live-in carer can unlock independence, companionship, and a genuine quality of life for someone with complex care needs.
Read Luis' Story...
One of our service users, Luis, had a visit from a couple of naughty Canvey Elves — Louise & Maria — who certainly helped get him into the festive mood ready for Christmas.
An over-the-moon Luis told us: "Carers become an integral part of our lives and they allow us to be more independent and less reliant on our families. When they think out-of-the-box and do themes as they have, it brings such great joy."
Maria and Louise absolutely love their job and always look forward to visiting Luis, saying: "We wanted to take part in elf day and loved coming in to see Luis's face when he saw us dressed up as elves. Moments like this make our job so special."
Luis's story is a perfect reminder that great care isn't just about physical support — it's about laughter, connection, and making people feel truly seen.
Read Les's Story...
Before October 2020, Les was the epitome of health — a dedicated runner who regularly participated in half marathons. In October 2020, Les suffered a sudden stroke at home. While undergoing a brain scan, he suffered a second, more severe stroke.
Les was placed on life support and spent weeks in the High Dependency Unit. He couldn't speak, swallow, breathe, or even open his eyes. His family were told to prepare for the worst. But Les had other ideas.
After months of intensive rehabilitation, Les came home. Novus Care provided the specialist care he needed to continue his recovery in his own environment, surrounded by family and the familiar things he loved.
Today Les continues to make progress every day. His story is one of extraordinary courage, and a testament to what is possible when the right care and support is in place.
Read Shaun's Story...
At 26 years old, Shaun from Surrey faces the unique daily challenges of living with a learning disability and a rare genetic disorder. Everyday tasks that many of us take for granted can be a real challenge for Shaun.
Lydia, our Field Care Supervisor, has been working alongside Shaun, his friends, and family to compile something truly special: his "About Me" book — a communication tool and window into who Shaun really is.
One of the biggest frustrations for Shaun has been the misunderstanding he faces from others. But with his "About Me" book in hand, Shaun feels more empowered and in control of his daily life.
Lydia says: "It's been great fun working with Shaun and getting to know him even better. His character really shines through in his book and we hope it helps everyone who meets him understand the wonderful person he is."
Read Marilyn's Story...
Last month, a significant milestone was reached for Marilyn and her husband Peter. After months of being confined to bed due to her illness, Marilyn had an important assessment with her carers to determine if she could safely use her wheelchair again.
Earlier, an occupational therapist had visited Marilyn and deemed it safe for her to use the wheelchair. This recent assessment was to confirm her ability to do so under the care and support of her Novus Care team.
The outcome was positive — Marilyn can now safely be lifted into her wheelchair for short periods. This achievement has opened up new possibilities, allowing her to experience the outdoors once more.
The joy and relief on Marilyn and Peter's faces were unmistakable. After being housebound for so long, this moment was both emotional and uplifting. It's not just about being able to move; it's about reclaiming a piece of the life she loves.
Read Salif's Story...
Meet Salif, an independent young man who became a Tetraplegic after a traffic accident in 2015. After spending time at the Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital undergoing rehabilitation, Salif chose live-in care over residential care to maintain his independence.
After considering a number of carer profiles, he chose Ray, an experienced live-in support worker with spinal care experience who also shared Salif's interests. Ray now plays a crucial role in helping him manage his daily life.
Spinal home care offers numerous advantages — personalised, one-on-one support tailored to specific needs and preferences, enabling people to remain in their own home and maintain their own routines.
Ray's assistance extends beyond daily care; he also helps plan outings and activities. Together, they have built a strong friendship, recently exploring Aldershot — the home of the British Army — which Salif loved.
Read Mo's Story...
Mo is 88 years young and lives in Hullbridge, Essex. We have been providing visiting care to him in his own home for over 2 years. As with many families across the UK, his family live far away and are not always able to visit as often as they would like.
His daughter and son-in-law play in an orchestra band called "Five Star Swing". Although they wanted Mo to come to one of their concerts, they thought it would be too difficult to organise. Mo's care team said — leave it to us.
Upon seeing his family perform on stage, Mo was visibly overjoyed, singing and dancing along. He was so proud watching his daughter and son-in-law perform. What a night.
At Novus Care, we believe moments like this are what life is all about. We cannot wait to see Mo singing and dancing at the next concert!
Read Rosemary's Story...
Rosemary, who's in her 70s, and her son-in-law from Cranleigh, Surrey took on an exhilarating challenge in memory of her beloved husband Peter, who received home care from Novus Care after being diagnosed with cancer.
Peter sadly passed away last year. However we kept in contact with Rosemary and were not expecting the most recent update: she wanted to raise money for Macmillan in Peter's memory — by jumping out of a plane.
It takes a lot of courage to jump from a plane. Rosemary had a trip away to Devon where herself and her son-in-law went skydiving. So far, Rosemary has raised an outstanding £2,090 for Macmillan.
We are so proud of Rosemary and her incredible spirit. Peter would have been so proud too. What an absolutely extraordinary woman.
Read Rodney's Story...
At Novus Care, we know that great care goes beyond the home. It's about enabling our clients to stay connected to the people, places, and experiences that bring them happiness.
One of our clients, Rodney, recently enjoyed a wonderful day out on the Watercress train line — something he hadn't been able to do for many years. Thanks to the support of his carer Jackie and field care supervisor Zuzana, Rodney was able to revisit a cherished destination.
Rodney told us: "It has been years since I was able to go to see the trains, but with the help of my carers I was able to go again." Moments like this are what home care is truly about.
We are so proud of Jackie and Zuzana for making this happen. Going that extra mile — quite literally — is what sets great carers apart, and we are lucky to have them on our team.
Read David's Story...
At the heart of our care community are the stories that inspire us every day — and David Homer's journey is certainly one of them. David has been living with Spina Bifida since birth and uses a wheelchair to get around. He is also partially deaf, but none of these challenges have ever stood in the way of his spirit, determination, or sense of adventure.
David has had a live-in carer from Novus Care since 2022, and it's been a joy to see him thrive and continue to live life independently. One of the most special parts of his journey has been the strong bond he shares with his carer, Faith.
From attending local events to pursuing personal goals, David continues to demonstrate that with the right care and support, there are no limits to what can be achieved. Faith's dedication and commitment to David's wellbeing has been outstanding.
David's story is a celebration of independence, friendship, and the life-changing impact that truly person-centred care can have. We are honoured to be part of his journey.
