What will my live-in carer do?

It all depends on your unique needs. Your carer could spend most of their time running errands or helping with chores. Or they might provide 24-hour care to help you manage a health condition. When you contact our team, we’ll put together a unique care plan for you.

Here’s a quick list of the sorts of things our carers can do:

  • Help with chores, cooking and running errands
  • Assist with personal care (washing, dressing and toileting)
  • Administer medication and help with medical devices like catheters
  • Provide condition-led care (e.g. for dementia, Down’s syndrome or spinal injuries)
  • Provide complex (long-term) care
  • Offer companionship – a friendly face and a listening ear

Norfolk live-in care FAQs

Can I ask for a male or female carer?
Your comfort comes first. That’s why we’re happy to provide exclusively male or female carers if preferred.

Will my carer have a driving licence?
Not all of our Norfolk live-in care team can drive. If your carer does drive and you’d like them to use your car, please note that you must arrange for insurance cover at your expense.

What kinds of jobs are carers not allowed to do?
Our carers can help with many care needs, as well as assist with light housework and running errands. However, they’re not permitted to do home improvements, DIY or certain health care tasks (such as giving injections).

Are carers vetted before they start working for Novus Care?
Yes. Our carers go through rigorous checks before they’re allowed to start work, including DBS checks.

How long will a live-in carer stay with me?
You can expect your usual carer to stay with you for around three to six weeks at a time. They’ll then take a break for one or two weeks. We’ll send a replacement carer during these breaks.
